Danielle's Story Part 2

I am now five years old and this September(2000) I started Mainstream School. I go to All Saints Primary School in Waddington. I still have to have a one to one helper to get me through the school day but I have made great progress since I started.

Over the past two years I have learned a lot of new words, I still sign sometimes but it has really helped me to learn to speak. I am still as active as ever and tire my Mum and Dad out even more now. The best thing I have done recently is to get out of nappies, I started trying to go without after half term and now I don't wear one at all to school or during the day when I am at home. Hopefully soon I won't need one at night either.

I have now finished my first year at school, everybody says what a lot of improvements I have made. My reading is getting better, I can talk a lot more now and hardly ever need to sign anymore. I can write and type my own name and know all the letters and numbers. I have lots of friends at school and really enjoy going. I am looking forward to next year and my new class.

Dad says I have done so well over the past year, he is pleased that I am not as much trouble when we go to the supermarket though I still make him chase me at least twice every time. I spend a lot of time trying to wind him up especially when he is at the checkout. I have also started to let him wash my hair without struggling.

I have had a busy year this year I made it into the local papers twice as part of the campaign for Down's Syndrome Awareness Week. Lots of people saw it and I like being a star.

I like to run and my Mum and Dad have to make sure they don't leave the door unlocked because as soon as I get the chance I will be off running down the street. I think it is great fun to have them chasing me.

The picture at the top of this page is of me with my big sister, Emma, it was taken by the people at the local Olan Mills studio. I have had a couple more pictures taken by them over the past year. Please click here to see them.

I will be going on holiday soon, I know I will have a good time. I will let you know what mischief I get up to when I get back.

Please come back to this page in the future to find out more about me and see how I am getting on.
